NTA claims to have set-up over 4000 test practice centres (TPCs), especially for students of rural areas, has run free practice sessions. About 10 lakh candidates, claims NTA, have used the facility for UGC NET exclusively.
According to the latest rules, to pass the test, candidates need to score at least 40 per cent marks (35 per cent for reserved category candidates). Among the qualified candidates, only the top 6 per cent will be declared pass.

The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for full-time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them.
The exam was conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT). The NET consists of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective type questions. There will be no break between papers. Earlier, when UGC used to conduct the exam, there used to be a break of at least an hour and a half between the two exams.
A total of 4756 candidates have cleared for the JRF while 55701 have cleared the NET for assistant professor only. Those who have cleared the JRF can apply for assistant professors' posts but not the other way round, as per the rules.
