Cluster housing for pandits is “sham return”; Panun Kashmir

Economic enticements were used to camouflage the real issues about the resettlement of Pandits: Chrungoo.

Terming the state government’s proposal of setting up residential clusters for Kashmiri migrants as “sham return”,Panun Kashmir today said that resettlement of Pandits is purely a “political issue” which needs to be addressed politically.

“Those who advocate a ‘sham return’ of the Pandit community to Kashmir in ‘clusters’ and so-called townships are simply exploiting their miseries,” Panun Kashmir President,Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo,said at a function here today.

Jammu and Kashmir Government is mulling a new proposal to set up 20 residential clusters for them.

“We have mooted a new proposal for return and rehabilitation of displaced migrants to Valley in which 20 residential clusters would be set up for housing them,” Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Vinod Koul said.

The proposal,mooted by Relief and Rehabilitation department,is being fined tuned for its submission to state Cabinet for its approval,Koul said.

As per the new proposal,residential plots in clusters would be provided by the state government to those who desire to return to the Valley as per the place of domicile and Rs 20 lakh would be provided for construction of the house per family for their rehabilitation.

“We would like to reiterate that resettlement of the community is purely a political issue which needs to be addressed politically”,Chrungoo said.
