‘Your aspirations, my responsibilities’: Rahul Gandhi remembers father Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Tuesday took to X (formerly Twitter) to remember his father and former prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi, on the day of his death anniversary.

Rahul wrote on X, “Father, your dreams, my dreams. Your aspirations, my responsibilities. Your memories, today and always, in my heart.”

The day is observed annually as National Anti-Terrorism Day to honour the legacy of the country’s sixth PM who lost his life on May 21, 1991, in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, due to an assassination carried out by a suicide bomber from the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, “On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.”

Other Congress leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leaders Sonia Gandhi, P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot along with Rahul paid tributes to the former prime minister at Vir Bhumi in Delhi.

Kharge wrote on X, “Heartfelt tribute to the visionary of the 21st century modern India, father of Indian information revolution, architect of Panchayati Raj empowerment, and pioneer of peace and harmony, former Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi ji on martyrdom day. His remarkable contribution in making India a strong and powerful nation will always be remembered.”
