PM Modi in Gujarat Highlights: PM Narendra Modi addressing the rally in Gujarat said, “In the past, all major government events used to take place only in Delhi. However, I have taken the Government of India to every corner of the country. Today’s program is a testament to this effort. Through this single program, we are continuing a new tradition of development works, inaugurations, and laying of foundation stones in many cities across the country.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated Gujarat’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya was present at the inauguration of AIIMS Rajkot. The institute will start admitting patients to its 250-bed indoor patient department (IPD) and also increase the number of beds to 750 by the end of the year. his is probably the first AIMS in the country, which is opening with such a large number of beds in IPD,” Colonel (retired) Dr C D H Katoch, executive director of AIIMS Rajkot, told mediapersons on Friday.

Hours after inaugurating India’s longest inaugurated India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, Sudarshan Setu, in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took in the Arabian Sea to pray in the submerged city of Dwarka.

PM Modi inaugurates India’s longest cable-stayed bridge Sudarshan Setu in Gujarat’s Dwarka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, Sudarshan Setu, in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district.

On the second day of his Gujarat visit, PM Modi cut the ceremonial ribbon and dedicated the 4.77-km-long Sudarshan Setu, also known as Signature Bridge, to the nation. Constructed at Rs 978 crore, it connects Okha town in the Devbhumi Dwarka district with Bet Dwarka island in the Gulf of Kutch.

After performing pooja at the Dwarkadhishji Mukhya Mandir, PM Modi took a stroll on the sealink and waved to fishermen and ferry-boat operators on board their boats. (Read More)

Beyt Dwarka is an island near Okha port, which is nearly 30 km from Dwarka town, where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna is situated.

At present, devotees visiting the temple at Beyt Dwarka can travel only during the day by boat, while the construction of the bridge will allow them to travel at all times, officials said.

PM Modi to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu in Gujarat today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the ‘Sudarshan Setu’, India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, which will connect the Okha mainland and the Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat. 

The four-lane cable-stayed bridge is 2.32 km long and was built at a cost of around Rs 980 crore. Also known as the Okha-Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge, it also has solar panels installed on the upper portions of the footpath, generating one megawatt of electricity.

With a total width of 27.2 meters (89 ft), featuring two lanes in each direction, the bridge also has 2.5 meters (8 ft) wide footpaths on both sides, which have been adorned with verses from Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna. (Click here to read more)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday inaugurate Sudarshan Setu,India’slongest cable- stayed bridge, in the Gulf of Kutch. Also known as Signature Bridge, it will link mainland Gujarat with Bet Dwarka island off Okha coast in Devbhumi Dwarka. Gujarat’s first sea link Signature Bridge is technically a sea-link, a first for Gujarat.

It connects Okha town of Devbhumi Dwarka district of mainland Gujarat to Bet Dwarka, an island around 3-km off Okha. Its total length is 4,772m, including a 900-m-long cable-stayed section. The four-lane bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 978 crore, was funded by the Union government.

Cable-stayed bridge

With a total length of 4,772 metres (4.77 km), it is Gujarat’s longest cable-stayed bridge.

There is one cable-stayed bridge in Bhavnagar but it is hardly a few dozen metre long. The Narmada bridge in Bharuch is 1.3-km long. “However, the Narmada bridge is an extra dosed cable-stayed bride, which technically differs from a typical cable-stayed bridge like Sudarshan Setu, as the latter’s spans can be longer,” a senior official said.
