Day after Pahalgam attack, 2 militants killed during infiltration attempt in Uri

The military operation is going on as the soldiers are searching for other possible infiltrators.

Two militants were killed in a gunfight after the army foiled an infiltration attempt in Uri sector in north Kashmir Sunday. This comes a day after 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in a deadly attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The military operation is going on as the soldiers are searching for other possible infiltrators. On Tuesday, 25 tourists and a local pony wallah were killed in a terror attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam tourist resort.

“Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation. Large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists,” army’s Valley-based Chinar Corp said in a post on X.

The operation began early Wednesday morning after the Army spotted a group of militants trying to infiltrate into the Valley through a stream in Uri sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla. Army said that as the troops challenged the infiltrators, they opened fire which was retaliated by the soldiers leading to a gunfight in which two militants were killed.

“On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 UI (unidentified) terrorists tried to infiltrate through general area Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, Baramulla, the alert troops on LC (Line of Control) challenged and intercepted them resulting in a firefight,” army said. “(The operation is in progress”.
