Hours after a six-year-old girl was kidnapped from the state’s Kollam district on Monday evening, she was found abandoned in a ground in the city on Tuesday. However, the police said the abductors are yet to be traced.

The Kerala Police had launched a massive probe to track down the girl who was kidnapped by a car-borne gang around 4.30 pm on Monday, barely 100 metre away from her house. The gang took away the girl while she was walking to a nearby house for tuition along with her 10-year-old elder brother.

According to the police, hours after the abduction, the girl’s family got a call from a woman demanding Rs 10 lakh as ransom for releasing her. They later found that the gang members had made the call after obtaining the phone of a trader at Parippally in Kollam.

The police had searched several vehicles since Monday night to look for the snatched girl. Apart from an extensive search, police had also examined scores of CCTV visuals.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had directed the state police chief to intensify the probe. He had said wrong information should not be circulated.
