Sena workers protest against Facebook posts

Following the FIR, Sena workers staged protests in the suburban pockets of Ghat-kopar, Bhandup and Mulund.

The Mulund police officers late on Saturday night registered an FIR against unidentified persons for posting controversial pictures containing alleged derogatory references to Maratha warrior King Shivaji and the late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on social networking site Facebook.

Following the FIR, Sena workers staged protests in the suburban pockets of Ghat-kopar, Bhandup and Mulund. Protests were also held in Pune and other places in the state.

“We have registered the FIR under IPC section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and relevant sections of the IT Act,” said Prakash Mansukh police inspector from Mulund Police station.

“On Sunday, the complainant Avinash Bagal gathered a mob at the Lal Bahaur Shashtri Road and tried to close down the shops, however, the police officials controlled the situation and the mob could not damage any government property,” the police said.
