Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday called his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, updating him on the ongoing conflict in his country following an attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to thank the Israeli PM for “providing an update on the ongoing situation”.

“People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” Modi wrote in his post.

PM Modi had earlier said that he was “deeply shocked the news of terrorist attacks in Israel”, affirming that India stood “in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour”.

The phone call comes in the backdrop of a surprise attack carried out by Hamas militants, who crossed into Israel by land, sea and air on October 7,  firing at least 2,500 rockets into the country by late morning. Over 1,600 people have been killed so far since the escalation of conflict on Saturday, including 900 Israelis, and nearly 770 Palestinians in Gaza.
