Poll code doesn’t prevent fuel price cut: PC

Home Minister Chidambaram added that India's borders with B'desh are 'secure' and there are no threats to the 4,095-km boundary in wake of BDR rebellion.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday replied in the negative when asked whether anything prevented the Government from reducing fuel prices further even after the model code of conduct is announced prior to the next Lok Sabha polls. “In my view,no,” said Chidambaram replying to the query and added that this was his own view “which is of no consequence”.

Speculation has been rife over the possibility of the Government further reducing diesel prices.

Asked on whether the Government was in a hurry to clear proposals just before the polls,Chidambaram said,”Tell me which of these is an unusual proposal? These are all usual proposals.”

On the turmoil in Bangladesh, the Home Minister said,”Our borders are secure and the BSF is on alert,” and that he did not think that the dispute will spill over into Indian territory. Asked whether today’s was the last Cabinet meeting before the general elections,Chidambaram said till May 22,”there will be a Cabinet meeting every Thursday”.
