Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal Wednesday said the BJP may have accepted the ruling of the Speaker Brij Bihari Butail not to press for debate in the House on phone tapping episode, but it still has all options open for seeking appropriate legal recourse against the Congresss disinformation campaign against him and the earlier government.
Speaking to the media after staging a walkout from the Assembly,Dhumal said,The government has messed up the whole matter and even Chief minister Virbhadra Singh is not fully aware about the provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885,which allows phone tapping, and keeping the details secret for six months before being periodically destroyed.
Asked,if the BJP has reconciled to the Speakers ruling to keep the things under wraps,Dhumal said,Any debate on the issue is illegal. But since some Congress leaders, including the Chief Minister, have gone public,we are seeking opinion of the legal experts. All options are open.
He said,if any Congress leader makes an accusation or reveals details, which otherwise are debarred under the law and ruling of the Speaker,we (BJP) will take him to the court.
While reiterating that no telephone tapping was done or ordered during his tenure as Chief Minister,he claimed that previous Congress government had indulged in taping the phones of the BJP leaders.
On the issue of renaming of BJP governments schemes started in the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,Dhumal said: There is no scheme, which the Congress government started and BJP government named it after Vajpayee. If Congress wants to start new schemes, they were most welcome. But why change the names?
