Ram Singh, the head of a breakaway faction of the Damdami Taksal based at Sangrawan,on Tuesday accused the Damdami Taksal Mehta headed by Harnam Singh Khalsa of beating up his supporters when they allegedly tried to put up posters in Mehta related to the 29th anniversary of the Operation Bluestar.
The alleged incident happened on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at Mehta. My supporters were beaten up by the activists of Damdami Taksal Mehta when they went to put up posters for observing the 29th anniversary of the 1984 holocaust, said Singh.
We observe the anniversary of 1984 holocaust on June 7 at Sangrawan, while Damdami Taksal Mehta observes it on June 6. Our men were not only beaten up,but also kept hostage for two hours. They were let off only at 1.30 am, he added.
Singh claimed that the supporters also forced his men to say on camera that they were putting up their posters over those put up by Damdami Taksal Mehta. They shot a video. Moreover, the activists of Damdami Taksal Mehta used foul language against me, said Singh, adding that he had brought the matter to the notice of Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh. However,Singh has not lodged a police complaint till now.
While Harnam Singh Khalsa was not available for comment,a man identifying himself as Daljit Singh, refuted the allegations. They were pasting their posters over ours. We asked them to stop this and they picked up a scuffle. We called up an associate of Bhai Ram Singh. But that man used foul language towards Baba (Harnam Singh (Dhumma) ji. We did make a movie but it was not done forcibly.
By putting aside a hoarding, they were putting their posters right opposite the main gate of the Taksal. They later apologised for it. we decided against lodging any complaint, he added.
