At the two-day chintan ijlas of Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP),which began in Jalandhar on Monday, party president Manpreet Singh Badal said he will meet Left leaders on April 20 to discuss poll alliance with national parties.
Speaking to mediapersons after the conclusion the first day of the chintan ijlas,Manpreet alleged that the Rs 1,00,000-crore debt on Punjab was a time bomb taking the state towards fiscal doom and that the ruling SAD-BJP government was deliberately hiding this fact.
The state government blames the Centre for everything that is wrong with the state. It should tell the people whether the Punjab Police and hospitals, which are in worst condition, too belong to the central government? he said, adding that it was regretful that the so-called chintan shivir of the ruling coalition in Goa chose to ignore this issue.
He said the Chintan Ijlas also discussed the issues of flight of industry from the state, unemployment and failure to invest in critical sectors like agriculture, education and health. The party also expressed concern over Punjab emerging as a corridor for drug trade and said this cannot be possible unless certain vested interests in the ruling party are supporting the drug mafia.
When asked about BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been in new recently following reports that he had been sidelined by his party and thus, would not contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,Manpreet said cricketer-turned-politician should join PPP.
Claiming that he and Sidhu follow the same ideology and wanted the state to prosper, develop and be corruption free,Manpreet appreciated the contributions made by Sidhu in the development of Amritsar.
