Fazilka police Tuesday booked a youth,Vijay Chetiwal,for posting offensive comments on a photograph of Forest Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani and Fazilka Nagar Council president Anil Kumar Sethi on social networking site Facebook.

Youth booked for comments against Jayani on Facebook

Ludhiana: Fazilka police Tuesday booked a youth,Vijay Chetiwal,for posting offensive comments on a photograph of Forest Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani and Fazilka Nagar Council president Anil Kumar Sethi on social networking site Facebook. However,the police did not arrest Chetiwal,a businessman from Fazilak,who has been booked under sections related to cyber crime based on a complaint by Sethi.

Brawl after comment against girl

JALANDHAR: The police on Tuesday rounded up three youths in connection with an incident of eve-teasing and opening fire. As per the police,two youths passed some comments on a girl who was passing by near Kings Hotel with a male friend. When her companion objected,the two youth started beating him and the girl. A passer by,identified as Gurjit,in an effort to pacify them opened fire in air from his licensed weapon. ADCP-Two,Parminder Singh Bhadhal,who visited the spot said Gurjit and two others were rounded up for questioning. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

Cross case against Satguru supporters

Amritsar: Police Tuesday registered a cross case of attempt to murder against the supporters of Namdhari sect chief Satguru Uday Singh. The case was registered on the complaint of Jaswinder Singh,a supporter of Thakur Dalip Singh. Jaswinder alleged that he sustained a bullet injury on his knee. Two others Gurdeep Singh and Swaran Singh also claimed to have sustained injuries,said Civil Lines SHO Sanjeev Kumar,adding that police were verifying the claims. Notably,factions owing allegiance to Uday and Dalip had clashed on Monday in Amritsar.

SGPC to produce films on Sikh religion

Amritsar: The Dharam Parchar Committee of SGPC will produce films relating to Sikh religion to propagate Sikhism. In a statement,SGPC on Tuesday said that a decision to this effect was taken after a meeting of a sub-committee constituted for the purpose. The films will spread awareness against drug addiction,social evils and apostasy.

1984 riots: CBI’s final arguments against Sajjan on March 14

New Delhi: A Delhi court Tuesday fixed March 14 for hearing final arguments of CBI in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and five others are facing trial. District Judge J R Aryan could not hear the arguments of senior advocate R S Cheema,appearing for CBI,as the lawyers at the Karkardooma Court complex were observing a day long strike. CBI had commenced final arguments in the case on March 31,last year and the counsel for the accused had concluded their final arguments on February 4.

Crime against women: AG to submit report

CHANDIGARH: While taking up the case pertaining to crimes against women,the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday asked Punjab additional advocate general Rita Kohli to submit a concrete report with compilations of all suggestions made in this regard. The directions came from a Division Bench comprising chief Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain. The case will now come up for hearing on March 4. Earlier,Kohli,DIG of UT Administration Alok Kumar and Haryana Additional Director General of Police K Selvaraj apprised the court of the various measures that the trio had proposed to curb crimes against women.
