BJP dismisses third front before 2014

Rudy says its mainstay Left Front unlikely to win more than 20-25 seats.

BJP dismissed Tuesday the emergence of a third front before the 2014 general election arguing that its mainstay, the Left Front, was unlikely to cross 20-25 seats.

Party general secretary incharge of Maharashtra Rajiv Pratap Rudy said: “The credible alternative to UPA-2 is the BJP-led NDA. The third front becomes a reality only if Left Front crosses 50 seats. But there is no indication it will.”

He also underplayed the visible power tussle in BJP. “L K Advani is a senior leader. It is natural for a senior leader visiting a state (Madhya Pradesh) to appreciate the good work of the chief minister (Shivraj Singh Chouhan).”

Rudy also refused to acknowledge that Advani is trying to push former BJP president Nitin Gadkari to head the party management committee for assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh,Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. “The party leadership will take the decision,” he said.

Rudy said BJP was not against Food Security Act but wanted some of its aspects discussed. Citing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act,he said,“It promised 100 days employment but in reality, work was made available for only 28 days.”

Rudy said it was unfortunate that IPL spot-fixing had overshadowed the scams of Congress. He demanded PM Manmohan Singh come clean on coal and 2G spectrum scams. “Unfortunately,PM appears to have skipped appearance before the joint parliamentary committee to avoid answering uncomfortable questions.”
