Sahyadri reserve buffer zone

The state government on Tuesday also notified the buffer zone for the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve,which comprises the Chandoli National Park and the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. The Supreme Court had recently ordered that tourism in core areas of forest reserves would not be permitted if buffer zones are not notified.

While the state government had already notified buffer zones around the Pench,Tadoba and Melghat reserves,the notification of the buffer zone around the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve has added about 400 sq km of protected area to the 741 sq km area of Chandoli and Koyna.
