ABVP, NSUI, Panthers Party keep up protests in Jammu

NSUI activists also held a demonstration on Jammu University campus with slogans against the state government.

WITH TEMPERS continuing to remain high in Jammu days after a police lathicharge on non-local students of NIT-Srinagar, activists of ABVP, the students’ front of the BJP, stopped the cavalcade of Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajindra outside Jammu University campus on Monday.

The DGP was on way to the police headquarters from his residence when some ABVP activists emerged from the university and lay in front of his car, shouting slogans against the state police for the lathicharge on NIT campus. Telling them that they have registered their protest and should return to the campus, the DGP pacified the protesters told them that an HRD team is holding an inquiry into the violence on in NIT.

Traffic on the busy Tawi bridge and adjoining roads remained out of gear for a large part of the day as thousands of Panthers Party workers took out a procession from Jammu city to the party headquarters in Gandhi Nagar in protest against the NIT row. Raising slogans against BJP, which is a coalition partner in the state government, they said they will not tolerate any insult to the Tricolour.

NSUI activists also held a demonstration on Jammu University campus with slogans against the state government for alleged intimidation of students who were holding the Tricolour in NIT-Srinagar.
