Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday targeted the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan, where Assembly elections are due later this year, saying that it has failed on the law and order front, specially in ensuring safety for women.
“Daily, almost 19 cases of crimes against women are reported. And when it comes to rape cases, 22 per cent of the country’s cases comes from Rajasthan alone,” Shah said in his address in Dungarpur at the launch of BJP’s second Parivartan Sankalp Yatra in the state.
“Gehlot ji is a magician, he makes many things disappear. In Rajasthan, Gehlot made the electricity disappear. Jadugar saheb made the health services, employment for youth, and women safety disappear too,” he said, accusing the Gehlot government of not cooperating with the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
The Union minister also targeted the Gehlot government over communal incidents in the state.
“By doing politics of appeasement, they have created an environment of insecurity in all of Rajasthan,” Shah said.
Referring to various incidents, he said: “Kanhaiyalal was beheaded in Udaipur, there were prohibitions on Hindu festivals post Karauli violence, path sanchalan was prohibited during Vijayadashami, 300-year-old Shiv temple in Alwar was razed.”
Naming several districts which reported communal incidents in the last four-and-a-half years, he said: “Tell me, should this riot-organising Gehlot government, which has made appeasement its policy, be kept running?”
He said that in the past 20 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several schemes in Gujarat and in the country “and what did the Congress party do?”
“They (Congress) launched Rahul Gandhi 20 times and all the 20 times his launching failed. Under UPA’s 10 years there were scams and corruption totalling Rs 12 lakh crore. Now Modi ji’s government has been running for nine years and even our opponents can’t level allegations of corruption on Modi ji,” he said.
He also asked Chief Minister Gehlot what did Rajasthan get when the UPA was in power at the Centre. “Hisab dena chahiye, ke nahi dena chahiye (Shouldn’t an account be given)? He won’t give (hisaab) but Gehlot ji I am a baniya’s son, I have come with the hisaab. You won’t tell but I will,” said Shah. “During UPA’s 10 years, Rajasthan got only Rs 1.60 lakh crore. But in his nine years, Narendra Modi gave Rs 8.71 lakh crore to the people of Rajasthan.”
“Apart from this, Rs 57,000 crore was given for railways, Rs 43,000 crore for roads, Rs 6,000 crore for a new airport in Kota, 23 new medical colleges and solar parks in Bikaner, Jaisalmer were set up …,” Shah said.
“80 lakh farmers of Rajasthan were given Rs 16,000 crore directly in their accounts. And 1.10 crore homes are being given water connections, of which 43 lakh have already been given connections,” he said.
Accusing the Gehlot government of scams and corruption, he said: “Modi ji sends money and they eat it up. But as soon as the government changes and you elect a BJP government in the state, we will immediately give the remaining connections.”
“About 5 lakh sisters were given (cylinders under) Ujjwala Yojana, 18 lakh poor were given homes,” he said, adding, “Gehlot ji, I have kept the report card of BJP’s nine years. But this is only 10 per cent. If you have courage, do a public press conference in Jaipur and give a hisaab to the people of Rajasthan of what you did apart from scams, corruption, and appeasement.”
The second Parivartan Sankalp Yatra, which began from Baneshwar Dham in Dungarpur, would travel for 19 days, covering about 2,500 km in 52 Assembly seats.
