With the Karnataka government distributing title deeds to over l lakh residents, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said Tuesday that while Congress puts money back into the pockets of the poor, BJP follows a model of concentrating entire money and resources in the hands of select rich people.
At a convention in Vijayanagar district’s Hospet to mark two years of Congress government, CM Siddaramaiah-led government distributed title deeds to 1,11,111 people whose “undocumented habitations” have been declared as revenue villages, and touted it as the “sixth guarantee”.
Speaking at the event, Gandhi said, “We had promised five guarantees. But in reality, we have fulfilled six. I think this is the most important (guarantee) for the future of the state.”
The initiative, he said, was a big step towards realising former PM Indira Gandhi’s dream (of ensuring that everyone had landholdings). He noted that the government had also declared 2,000 habitations as revenue villages during the ceremony.
Mounting an attack on BJP, he said, “The BJP wants only select people to get India’s entire money, but we want the money to go to the pockets of poor, backward, Dalits, Adivasis directly.”
