AN FIR was registered against unidentified persons for allegedly stealing 3,800 bamboo lights and 36 gobo projector lights from the secured Bhakti Path and Ram Path in Ayodhya, police said on Wednesday.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, the state government pointed out that as part of beautification efforts in Ayodhya, 2,600 bamboo lights were installed on trees. However, during verification, the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) did not find any additional bamboo lights installed. Thus, the claim of 3,800 lights being stolen, as alleged by the vendor, is false, as those lights were never installed. The vendor is making these statements in an attempt to get additional payment, the statement said.
Police said that investigations are on intothe claims made by Shekhar Sharma, a representative of the company contracted to install the lights, who filed a report via email two days ago.
Police said Sharma alleged that on May 9 this year, he found out that the lights were missing during a routine check, a month after his previous inspection.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Ayodhya, Raj Karan Nayyar, said Sharma has been requested to assist them. “We have asked the complainant to identify the specific locations where the stolen lights were installed,” said a police officer.
The lights were installed at Bhakti Path and Ram Path under a contract awarded by the Ayodhya Development Authority. Sources said the company claims to have installed 6,400 bamboo lights and 96 gobo projector lights along both sides of Ram Path and Bhakti Path.
District Magistrate of Ayodhya Chandra Vijay Singh said a report has been requested from the Development Authority.
