Tamil Nadu Girl Child Protection Scheme:Launched in 1992, the Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme stands as one of Tamil Nadu’s most progressive efforts to empower girl children and combat gender discrimination. Designed with a vision to ensure every girl’s right to education, protection, and dignity, the initiative remains a cornerstone of the state’s welfare policies.

Aiming for Equal Opportunity

The scheme focuses on promoting gender equality through education, delaying early marriages, and securing long-term financial support for daughters. By encouraging parents to educate their girls up to at least the Class-12 or equivalent level and adopt family planning norms, it builds a foundation for equality and stability at home.

Financial support for girl child

There are two schemes under the initiative.

Under Scheme-I, families with only one girl child receive a deposit of Rs 50,000 in her name as a fixed deposit through the Tamil Nadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.

Families with two girl children are covered under Scheme-II, where each girl receives Rs 25,000. The deposits are renewed every five years, and upon turning 18, the girl receives the matured amount along with interest — helping her pursue higher education.

In addition, every girl under the scheme receives an annual incentive of Rs. 1,800 from the sixth year of deposit to support her educational needs.

The application should be submitted before the girl attains 3 years of age.
