Actor Grusha Kapoor, who played Sunny Leone’s mother in the ZEE5 series Karenjit Kaur – The Untold Story of Sunny Leone, has shared her initial reluctance to take on the role. Grusha admitted to being unfamiliar with OTT platforms and expressed her concerns, believing initially that Sunny’s mother had pushed her into the adult film industry.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Grusha said, “When they called me for that, they said that they are making a show on Sunny’s life. I said, ‘Aapki himmat kaise hui mujhe phone karne ki?’ I thought, ‘What if her mother had forced her into the porn industry?’ I was scared. I said, ‘I won’t do it.’”

Karenjit Kaur – The Untold Story of Sunny Leone traced the story of Sunny Leone, born Karenjit Kaur Vohra in Canada and showed her teenage struggles and how her family’s money problems led her to become an adult film star.

When the makers called Grusha Kapoor again, she agreed to meet the director. She said, “I thought it would be a dingy place with alcohol bottles all around and a Ranjit type person sitting there. But when I went to their office, I saw Aditya Dutt and his full team there. They were such lovely people.”

After explaining to her about the role and the OTT platform, Grusha agreed to do the role despite being almost the same age as Sunny Leone. She said, “It has been one of the toughest roles I have ever done in my life. I play an alcoholic, because her mother became an alcoholic because of the circumstances.”

Karenjit Kaur – The Untold Story of Sunny Leone also starred Raj Arjun, Rysa Saujani, Karamvir Lamba and Bijay Jasjit Anand among others. The show had three seasons.
