Pakistan’s Dhurandhar ban: Bilawal Bhutto makes entry to Akshaye Khanna’s viral song; film is country’s most pirated ever

While Dhurandhar continues to make waves across India, the film, despite being banned in Islamabad, has also become a talking point in Pakistan. Just like in India, audiences there can’t seem to get enough of Akshaye Khanna, and the viral song FA9LA, featuring the actor’s electrifying dance, has flooded the internet consciousness. Recently, a video circulated on X (formerly Twitter), showing the song being played at a party in Pakistan attended by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto.

The clip shows Bhutto being welcomed on stage and taking a seat while FA9LA from Dhurandhar plays in the background, even though the film remains banned in the country. Interestingly, Bhutto’s PPP has filed a legal challenge against the film in a Karachi court, questioning the use of images of the late Benazir Bhutto. The petition seeks an FIR against the cast and crew of Dhurandhar.

The song has been picturised on Akshaye Khanna’s Rehman Dakait as he attends a Baloch wedding. The song has since gone viral with Akshaye receiving a lot of love for his performance.

Dhurandhar is most pirated movie in Pakistan

In fact, despite the official ban, reports from IANS indicate that the film has been illegally downloaded at least 2 million times in Pakistan within just two weeks. It has become the most pirated movie in the country, surpassing Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. As Akshaye Khanna continues to capture hearts with his performance as crime kingpin Rehman Dakait, casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed in an exclusive conversation with SCREEN how he was cast in the film:

“We jotted down lots of names for his role and then we went about shortlisting, where we zeroed in on his name. Then he came for the narration, and he came alone, that was the beautiful part. And after it ended, he looked at me and I looked at him and he said, ‘Loved it, maza aa gaya yaar’ (I loved it, I really enjoyed it, man).”

Dhurandhar is about an Indian secret agent, played by Ranveer Singh, who infiltrates Pakistan’s crime world, which is supported by the ISI. The cast also includes Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Rakesh Bedi as well. Dhurandhar is a two-part gangster actioner, with the second installment slated for release during Eid 2026.
