Wondering what to do this weekend. Here is everything that's new and fresh on OTT this week. Grab a bag of popcorn and dive in. Black Warrant Netflix Created and show run by Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, Black Warrant follows the story of Sunil Gupta, an idealistic underdog who becomes a jailer in Tihar, one of India’s largest and most infamous prisons. Sunil is shocked by the harsh truths, corrupt practices, in-prison wars and social injustices within the jail complexes. The newly-appointed jailer and his colleagues navigate a system that challenges everything they believe. As Sunil grapples with moral dilemmas and power struggles, the drama reveals the raw and unfiltered reality of prison life. Zahan Kapoor makes his series debut as Sunil, joined by a talented ensemble including Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur and Sidhant Gupta. The series is inspired by true events and is a dramatised adaptation of the book 'Black Warrant: Confessions Of A Tihar Jailer', written by former superintendent at Tihar Jail, Sunil Gupta and journalist Sunetra Choudhury. Asura Netflix In 1979 Tokyo, four distinct sisters uncover their aging father’s affair, causing their happy facades and bottled-up emotions to slowly unravel. Like the “asura,” demigods in Buddhist cosmology, these sisters — Tsunako, Makiko, Takiko, and Sakiko — embody a whirlwind of emotions, clashing fiercely yet sharing moments of profound connection. As they navigate their differing views on love and life, their journey is marked by both conflict and growth. 'Asura' reimagines the beloved Japanese family drama 'Like Asura' for a modern audience. Written and directed by the internationally-acclaimed Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Our Little Sister) and produced by Yasuo Yagi, the series features some of Japan’s most talented actors including Rie Miyazawa, Machiko Ono, Yu Aoi, and Suzu Hirose in the cast. "With great respect for Mukoda and her influence on his career, Kore-eda infuses Asura with his unique vision, highlighting the independence and complexity of women," says Netflix in a press note. Pepe MUBI Taking inspiration from an infamous runaway hippo, this shapeshifting adventure won Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlinale. Traveling through timelines, planes of consciousness, and dazzlingly diverse forms of experimentation, Pepe summons specters of violence with eclectic, mystical style. A voice that claims to be the ghost of Pepe, the first and only hippopotamus ever killed in the Americas, tells his story. Beginning in Southern Africa and moving to South America, Pepe narrates his eventful life—from being owned by Colombian drug baron Pablo Escobar to his final days roaming free. Pepe, a fablesque documentary, is directed by Dominican Republic-born Nelson Carlo de los Santos Arias. Goosebumps: The Vanishing Disney+Hotstar This eight-episode series features David Schwimmer as Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who becomes obsessed with solving a 30-year-old mystery even as a supernatural entity creates terror in New York City. Borrowing elements from RL Stine‘s popular book series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing follows twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) as they spend the summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn with their now single dad Anthony. After his brother went missing with a group of kids in 1994, they were presumed to be killed by ghosts. Anthony starts digging into their disappearance and makes certain startling discoveries. The show is developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, the showrunner is Hilary Winston. On Call Prime Video This police drama follows a rookie and veteran officer duo as they go on patrol in Long Beach, California. Shot with a mixture of hand-held cameras, bodycam and dash-cam footage to create a cinema verité effect, the series explores the morality of protecting and serving a community. The series features Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars) as protective veteran officer Traci Harmon, who struggles to find her place in the department while training the next generation of officers. Brandon Larracuente (The Good Doctor) stars as Alex Diaz, an ambitious rookie who grapples with holding onto his optimistic outlook as he realises the challenges he’ll face in today’s climate.
