Besides giving strong performances in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu movies, Sai Pallavi is also known for being a fantastic dancer. Her rendezvous with dance started when she was merely 5 or 6 years old. The actor recently recalled her first dance performance.

During a chat on the show Nijam with Smita, the actor recalled, “I think I was in first standard. I had the boy cut hair. It was a song from Shah Rukh Khan, Karisma Kapoor’s Dil To Pagal Hai! Yeah. That was my first dance.”

The actor further went down memory lane and said, “It wasn’t a stage as such. It was like how we have this podium here. It was an inter school competition. I don’t know why did my mother take me there but I went with her. They attached a dupatta with a clip to my hair to make it look like long hair. It fell off midway during the performance and I felt so uncomfortable. I remember I got down and started crying. My mother thought I am talented and interested in dancing.”

Sai Pallavi revealed that it was her mother’s belief that she had a future in dancing. So much so, that she would often tell her that she was probably a dancer in her previous birth.

“She believed that when I was in her tummy, I danced a lot,” Pallavi recalled with nostalgia in her voice. She added, “She is not someone who used to dance, she played veena. So she told me that in my previous life I was probably a dancer. When she was pregnant with me inside, I started dancing.”

A little nudge in the right direction encouraged the actor to explore the performing arts more. Pallavi said, “She (Pallavi’s mother) started making me watch videos of Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and I kept practicing and over time it gave me a lot of comfort because I used to get a lot of validation from mum and dad every time I danced and won a competition. I was like ‘Ok, I am good at this so let me start doing this.’”

The Nijam with Smita episode with Sai Pallavi is currently streaming on SonyLIV.
