Kushi box office collection Day 1: Vijay Deverakonda-Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Telugu film collects Rs 16 crore on opening day
Kushi is directed by Shiva Nirvana and brings together Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu together for the first time.

Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s latest romantic drama Kushi opened in theatres on Friday. The film has taken off to a positive start with Rs 16 crore nett opening in India.
According to the trade website Sacnilk, the movie dominated in the Telugu-speaking territories with 59.13 percent occupancy on Friday. The maximum traffic came in during the night shows and accounted for 74.13 percent of footfalls. Since there are no other big Telugu film in theatres currently, Kushi has gotten a bigger chance of making it big at the box office.
With the city of Hyderabad bringing in the maximum traffic of 64.75 percent, Bengaluru and Chennai took the second and third-highest spot for the Telugu version of the film. The film had an overall of 40.12 percent occupancy for the film’s Tamil version.
It is interesting to note that Vijay’s last release, the 2022 film Liger, which had a pan-Indian release also made Rs 16 crore on its first day. Samantha was last seen in Shaakuntalam, which was a Telugu release, and made Rs 2.7 crore at the box office on opening day. Both films were seen as flops.
The last big Telugu release was Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar, which released in theatres on August 11. The film, despite having the megastar in it, didn’t perform very well at the box office. While Kushi can enjoy a smooth run for now, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan may pose a threat to the successful run of the film. Jawan is releasing in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on September 7, which gives Kushi only a week’s time to make the most of the audience’s undivided attention.
Kushi tells the story of a couple who falls in love and gets married after convincing their families. The story takes a twist as marital life poses its challenges. Indianexpress.com’s Raghu Bandi wrote in the film’s review, “All actors are seasoned performers and have done their best. It is the writing that doesn’t go to the depths the film’s premise might offer. Samantha’s character definitely deserved more voice and screen space. Kushi might appeal to the family audience looking for a fun evening with their beloved stars.”
