HanuMan director Prasanth Varma says he ‘wasted a lot of time’ waiting for stars like Ram Charan, Allu Arjun and Jr NTR: ‘Even if Tom Cruise comes to me…’
HanuMan director Prasanth Varma said that despite offers from Bollywood, he intends to continue with his original plan.

Prasanth Varma’s HanuMan emerged as a Sankranti winner, and the film’s cast and crew recently got together to celebrate their success. HanuMan stars Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vinay Rai in lead roles, and a sequel has been announced. The director has now revealed how he reached out to big stars like Ram Charan, Allu Arjun and Jr NTR, but nothing came of it. Varma also said that he is currently avoiding Bollywood offers, and wants to concentrate on his next film.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Varma was asked about working with major stars. He said, “I’m not against working with stars. Usually with stars, it takes time. I spent a lot of time waiting for a couple of stars. I wasted a lot of my time. So after that, I’ve decided, okay, let’s just have a deadline. So after this deadline, even if Tom Cruise comes to me, I should just go ahead with whoever I have. I didn’t come into the industry to work with stars.”
He also revealed that he’d approached Ram Charan, Jr NTR and Allu Arjun, among others, for films. The director said that stars are usually busy, and he doesn’t want to wait around for them because he’s here to tell stories.

When asked how the stars inform him about not wanting to do a film, Varma mentioned that many of them avoid being upfront, but the message is usually clear. In the initial days of his career, he was puzzled when someone praised his story but then ghosted him the next day. As time passed, he understood the challenges actors face.
Varma also said that he is getting a lot of offers from Bollywood. However, he is in no mood to make his Bollywood debut anytime soon. He said, “I already had a plan. With respect to such a huge success, we already had a plan about what to do immediately after HanuMan. So, the problem is, I’ll have to avoid so many people now. I’ll have to excuse myself from so many people so that I can continue with the plan that we have already.”
The director also revealed why Nani backed out of Awe 2. He said, “Nani always said, ‘The idea for me is to introduce as many people as possible. You have already become a director, so I don’t want to relaunch you again. You don’t have to get relaunched. Instead, I would spend that money or my time on launching more directors.’ So that is the reason. I didn’t take Awe 2 with Nani. I would individually do it at some point.”
HanuMan has grossed over Rs 250 crore globally, emerging as a word-of-mouth hit.
