Host Amitabh Bachchan shared an interesting aspect of his life in the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16. Big B revealed that he considers himself “half-Sardar” explaining how his mother Teji Bachchan was from a Sikh family, and his maternal aunts would affectionately call him “Amitabh Singh”.
Amitabh opened up after Kriti, a contestant, shared her experience with an inter-caste love marriage, and how difficult it was for her to convince her parents to accept her partner. Big B, in response, said that he doesn’t believe in the concept of inter-caste because all are one. He shared that he has Sikh roots and called himself a “half-Sardar”. He said, “I find it a little awkward to call it inter-caste. My father was from UP, and my mom was from a Sikh family. I believe I am half-Sardar.”
He fondly recalled his childhood. “When I was born, my masis from Punjab would say, ‘Kinna sona putar hai, ki naam rakhiya. Haaye sadda Amitabh Singh (What a beautiful son we have, what shall we name him? Ah, our Amitabh Singh).’ They never left it.” Big B’s anecdote highlighted his pride in his Sikh heritage.
The episode was quite an emotional roller coaster as Kirti, who is from Sukrit, Uttar Pradesh, also shared why it was so important for her to be on the hot seat of KBC 16. She opened up about the time when her father wanted to participate in the quiz show but couldn’t and how even after losing his memory, he could answer all the questions on KBC. While her father could not participate in the show, Kirti shared that by coming to the show, she has fulfilled her father’s dream and wanted him to meet Bachchan.
Amitabh Bachchan further praised Kirti’s grit and determination as she tackled the questions. When Kirti effortlessly answered a mathematical question, Big B lauded her math skills, to which she confessed that in school, she was not too good in math and would get just 40 marks, just enough for her to pass the exam. However, it was her banking experience that has improved her math skills over time. Responding to her, Big B too shared that he was also weak in the subject as he revealed his own marks. He said, “Mere 42 aaye the (I scored 42).”
During the conversation with Bachchan, Kirti also happened to confess that she is not too fond of jewellery and asked if Big B gifts his wife, Jaya Bachchan, any jewellery. The host smiled and said, “You’ve asked me quite a personal question, but yes, I do gift her. Hope anyone from Income Tax isn’t watching this.”
