Yatra 2 teaser: Jiiva plays CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in story about the inception of YSR Congress Party

While Yatra, the first part of the biography, was a human drama, director Mahi V Raghav comes across as a bit over-the-top film with politicians coming across as villains.

The inception of the YSR Congress started a new chapter not just in Andhra Pradesh, but the whole of India. The success of the party reinforced the idea of federalism, that has been a core tenet of the country. Yatra 2, directed by Mahi V Raghav and starring Jiiva, is all about the origin of the party and the struggles Jaganmohan Reddy faced in bringing in changing the political landscape of the state.

The teaser reveals that unlike the first part, which was a sober human drama, Yatra 2 will be more over-the-top with respect to the political feud that ensued between the Congress party and Jaganmohan Reddy after the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

The first part ended with YSR’s death in the tragic helicopter crash and the funeral which was attended by lakhs of people from across the state. The second part will document the aftermath of his death. It will show the rift that started between Jaganmohan Reddy and Congress party regarding the condolence march he had organised for his father.

Mahi V Raghav has depicted Congress leader Sonia Gandhi (played by Suzanne Bernert) and Chandrababu Naidu (played by Mahesh Manjrekar) with cinematic villain traits that are in contrast with the tone of the first part. However, the opening sequence of the film, a human moment, ends up being the memorable element of the teaser.

Also starring Mammootty and Ketaki Narayan, Yatra 2 has music by Santhosh Narayanan. The film will be released in theatres on February 8.
