Though speculations are rife that the actor would soon enter politics and that his aforementioned initiatives were part of an attempt to lay the groundwork for the same, there have not been official confirmation from the side of Vijay or any of his close associates yet.
In 2021, Iyakkam members had contested the rural local body polls in newly created districts in 2021. They sprung a surprise by winning over 120 seats.
The organisation members later contested urban local body polls as well. Posters depicting Vijay as the next chief minister were put up and slogans ridiculing the ruling and Opposition party leaders were raised in some parts of the state, triggering a controversy.
