Vignesh Shivan says he was compared to a dog after making relationship with Nayanthara public: ‘If the beauty chose the beast’

Speaking to Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan said, “When it comes to us, nothing is easy. Even if we have to step out for a meal, do you think we can do it? No, right? This is a wedding. Did you think getting married in Tirupati would be so easy? There’s always a challenge for us that keeps testing us. We’ll handle it.”

In another part of the documentary, Vignesh Shivan recalled, “When our relationship first became public, the first famous meme that came out was, ‘No one can stop it if the beauty chose the beast.’ I was compared to a dog. They said Nagoor Biryani was being offered to a dog. The meme had both our pictures on it.” He questioned, “Why can’t the beast land the beauty? What’s wrong if the beauty chooses the beast? Life is uncertain. Life is where a bus conductor becomes a superstar.”

He added, “Reaching a certain place in life is not something which happens easily. You have to pay a price for it. And we have to pay it on a monthly basis, sometimes we pay it on a weekly basis.” Nayanthara shared, “Sometimes, I feel very guilty that if I was not a part of his life, probably his life would have been a little more easier and maybe happier and better.”

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan fell in love on the sets of their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which was produced by Dhanush. The couple kept their relationship a secret from the crew. This was their first collaboration together, and Vignesh Shivan’s debut as a director. The couple dated for several years before tying the knot in June, 2022. Later, they welcomed twin sons–Uyir and Ulag.

The couple recently made headlines after they called out Dhanush for refusing No Objection Letter and slapping them with a legal notice for using songs and BTS clips from the sets of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan for their documentary. Yet, the couple have used certain portions of it. Dhanush is yet to react to the controversy.
