It is surreal that even as actor-politician Vijay is bidding adieu to his cinema career to concentrate on his political sojourn, his son Jason Sanjay is making his debut in the field. Interestingly, Jason is opting for a role behind the camera, and will make his directorial debut with Lyca Productions’ next. In a recent announcement, the makers revealed that Jason’s debut will be headlined by Sundeep Kishan.
Interestingly enough, Sundeep, who was recently seen in Dhanush’s Raayan, also headlined Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial debut, Maanagaram. Apart from announcing the lead of the film, the makers also revealed that Jason’s first movie would have music by Thaman and editing by Praveen KL. Notably, Thaman composed the anthem for Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.
The film was officially announced in August 2023, and it has taken over a year to go on floors. From the announcement video, it is clear that the movie would dabble in multiple genres as we see imagery of money going up in flames, a library, more money, and hidden secrets. Jason, who studied Film Production at the Toronto Film School, has also learnt screenwriting in London.
Talking about their upcoming film, GKM Tamil Kumaran of Lyca Productions said, “When Jason Sanjay presented the narrative, we felt something fresh, and most importantly, it had the USP of drawing pan-Indian attention.” The pan-Indian aspirations of Lyca Productions is valid because it is not just about the lineage of the director, but Sundeep’s presence in not just Telugu and Tamil, but also in Hindi through films like Shor in the City, and the Amazon Prime Video series, The Family Man.
Meanwhile, Lyca Productions have their hands full as they are backing Magizh Thirumeni’s much-awaited Ajith Kumar-starrer Vidaamuyarchi and Prithviraj’s big-budget sequel, L2: Empuraan. While the Tamil film is expected to hit screens this Pongal, the Mohanlal film is scheduled for a March 27 release.
