The Mumbai Police have seized a multi-crore Lamborghini Urus and registered a case against its driver for allegedly speeding at nearly 250 kmph on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, where the maximum permitted speed is 80 kmph.
The action was taken on Wednesday after a video of the luxury car being driven at high speed was widely shared on Instagram. The clip shows the Lamborghini overtaking several vehicles on the sea link. The incident is said to have occurred on December 12 after which a complaint was registered.
The seized vehicle, bearing Haryana registration number, has been taken into custody by the Worli Police Station in connection with a case of rash and dangerous driving, police officials said.
Police identified the driver as Faiz Adenwala (36), a resident of Khar West in Mumbai. Officials said Adenwala is a car dealer and had been temporarily entrusted with the vehicle by its owner.
The investigation revealed that the Lamborghini is registered in the name of an Ahmedabad-based firm and the owner is Neerav Patel who is a resident of Ahmedabad.
A case has been registered against the driver at the Worli Police Station under sections related to negligent and dangerous driving.
Officials said that there are previous speeding violations against the person driving the vehicle.
