Tragedy struck the set of director PS Mithran’s Tamil spy action-thriller Sardar 2 when a stuntman, identified as Ezhumalai, tragically fell to death during filming on Wednesday. He fell from a height of 20 feet while shooting an action sequence for the film, IndiaToday.in reported citing a source close to the production team.

The report also mentioned that the stuntman suffered serious injuries and succumbed to an internal haemorrhage. An investigation is currently ongoing and filming of Sardar 2 has been temporarily stopped. The movie’s team, however, has not issued an official statement yet.

Bankrolled by S Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures, Sardar 2 serves as a sequel to the 2022 blockbuster Sardar, starring Karthi, Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Chunky Pandey and Laila in key roles.

Following a pooja ceremony on July 12, filming for Sardar 2 began on July 15. Sharing a couple of pictures from the pooja ceremony, Prince Pictures noted on X (formerly Twitter), “The auspicious pooja for #Karthi starrer #Sardar2 took place recently, and the shooting of the film is scheduled to start on July 15th, 2024, on grand sets in Chennai.”

The sequel was announced shortly after the success of the first film. Within a week of its premiere, the film’s team organised a media event and unveiled a teaser for Sardar 2.

While GV Prakash Kumar composed music for the first film, Yuvan Shankar Raja has taken on this role for Sardar 2. George C Williams returns as the cinematographer, but Vijay Velukutty will edit the film instead of Ruben.
