Shruti Haasan, who is the daughter of Kamal Haasan and Sarika, recently opened up about her faith, which she believes has been a source of strength in her life. What’s unique about her devotion is that it was not instilled in her by her parents. Instead, Shruti discovered her faith on her own, and it has become an integral part of her life.
As Shruti shared that her father is an atheist and her mother is spiritual, she was asked how she discovered God. Her response was candid and humorous, “Chori chori (secretly).” She further explained, “In our colony, there was a lane where I used to ride my bicycle. I was asked not to ride near the main gate… For some reason, every morning I would hear the church and temple bells around the same time, and I would wonder which one I would reach first. The temple was too far away from my house, so I used to visit the church once a week. Nobody at home came to know at least for 5-6 months. The thing with kids is that if you tell them not to do something, they do it even more. In my case, it was religion.”
Shruti’s first visit to a temple was a significant experience, one that she cherishes to this day. “My first visit to a temple was with my grandfather who took me to a temple in Chennai. He had told me not to tell my father that he had brought me to a temple. Shortly after that, my grandfather passed away. I always had a connection with my grandfather and a temple which became like a spiritual connection.”
