Santhosh Narayanan reveals amount paid to Dhee and Arivu for Enjoy Enjaami: ‘A whopping zero cents’

Enjoy Enjaami turned 3 today, and Santhosh Narayanan, who was the music producer of the song, claimed that they weren't paid by the music label for the track.

Enjoy EnjaamiThe three year anniversary of Enjoy Enjaami has opened a can of worms.

Today marks 3 years since the release of “Enjoy Enjaami”, the song that brought hope to many indie musicians in Tamil Nadu. When a tweet from Santhosh Narayanan landed with the hashtag #EnjoyEnjaami on Tuesday, fans were excited to see what the music producer of the hit song had to say about what is now called the pride of the Tamil indie music scene. However, things turned anti-climatic as Santosh made a sarcastic video hitting out at Majja, the indie platform, which funded the song. SaNa claimed that they haven’t received a single cent from the label.

“Enjoy Enjaami” has a whopping 457 million views on YouTube, and it is one of the most-watched Tamil songs on the platform. Despite the number, Santhosh has claimed that Majja hasn’t paid them a single penny, which has come as a shock to his fans.

Santhosh Narayanan started the video with a hoot and said, “Three years of Enjoy Enjaami. Thank you for all the love you have showered on the song. We were approached with owning 100 per cent of the rights and royalty of the song. We were so happy. You know the song connected really well and it has over a billion streams, cumulatively on all the platforms. I wanted to spill the beans on how much we have received in net income and revenue. To date, all three artistes (Dhee, Arivu, and Santhosh Narayanan), we received a whopping zero cents from this song. Unfortunately, we tried our best to reach out to the label. There were some great, world-renowned artistes involved in this. We are yet to receive any of the revenue.”

Santhosh also accused Majja of stealing his YouTube channel and receiving revenue from that as well. He sarcastically called it, “A bonus.” He added, “It has been going on forever. I am just posting this, and it is one of my first posts in this regard.”

After the bitter experience, Santhosh Narayanan has resolved to start a separate platform for indie artistes in the form of a YouTube channel. He concluded, “I am here for you indie artistes. Don’t worry. I will definitely make sure that your dues are cleared. And thank you so much. Please spread the word.” The composer ended with another sardonic hoot.

Ever since Santhosh shared the tweet, many online have accused AR Rahman of not helping the artistes as he was one of the ambassadors of Majja. It is speculated that Santhosh was referring to Rahman as a ‘world-renowned artiste’ in the video.

Maajja’s official description on YouTube reads, “Maajja’s mission is to amplify the voice of South Asian independent artistes globally by enabling them with direct access to support resources and monetization opportunities within a vetted ecosystem.” However, the latest claim by Santhosh Narayanan seems to be in contrast to it. The label has yet to respond to Santhosh’s video.

This is not the first time “Enjoy Enjaami” has become a subject of controversy. Earlier, rapper Arivu indirectly accused Dhee and Santhosh Narayanan of not properly crediting him for the success of the song.
