Kaantha box office collection Day 3: Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati starrer period drama Kaantha kickstarted its journey at the box office with quite a strong word of mouth. Initially, the film was also showing an upward trend in its collections, but on its third day, Kaantha’s earnings saw a slight drop. The Selvamani Selvaraj directorial received decent reviews, while the film’s storytelling was panned by critics; Dulquer Salmaan was lauded for his performance.
According to reports in Sacnilk, Kaantha earned Rs 4.35 crores on day one, and it saw a jump of 14.94 percent and collected Rs 5 crores on its second day. On Sunday (day 3), Kaantha once again saw a drop in its collection and earned Rs 4.35 crores. After three days, the film’s total net India collection stands at Rs 13.22 crores. Overseas, the period drama earned Rs 5 crores.
On Sunday, Kaantha’s overall Tamil occupancy was 26.70 percent, which is lower as compared to Saturday. The film has a total of 1121 shows in Tamil running all over India. With 26 shows, Pondicherry has the highest occupancy for Kaantha, followed by Chennai. In Chennai’s the film’s occupancy was 37 percent with 390 shows. In Mumbai, the Tamil occupancy for Kaantha is 24 percent with 28 shows, while in Delhi-NCR it is 20 percent with 16 shows.
Initially, Kaantha’s release led to a controversy when MK Thaygaraja’s grandson approached the Chennai court seeking a stay order on the period drama’s release. MK Thaygaraja’s grandson claimed that the film projected Tamil cinema’s first superstar in a defamatory manner. Following these accusations, the producers were asked to explain. While the hearing on the matter is to take place on 18th November, the film has already been released worldwide on 14th November.
The film’s Telugu version saw an occupancy of 16.96 percent on Sunday with a total of 842 shows running all over India. Chennai had the highest occupancy of 39 percent with 12 shows for the Dulquer Salmaan starrer. With 26 shows, Warangal had an occupancy of 27 percent. In Mumbai, Kaantha’s Telugu version saw an occupancy of 12 percent with 7 shows, and in Delhi-NCR, the period drama had 12 percent occupancy with 12 shows.
Other than Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati, the film also stars Bhagyshri Borse, Samuthirakani, and Bijesh Nagesh in important roles. Kaantha is produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana Dagubatti’s Spirit Media, and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj.
