(Image: Sun Pictures/Facebook) Despite nearing the conclusion of its third week in theatres, Nelson Dilipkumar’s Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer continues to exhibit strong and consistent box office results. On its 18th day of release on Sunday, the film managed to generate Rs 6.68 crore, demonstrating a notable 6.68 per cent increase in its nett earnings from the Indian market.
The film’s total India nett now stands at Rs 315.13 crore. With a domestic gross of Rs 361.55 crore and overseas of Rs 185 crore, Jailer’s worldwide collection has surged to Rs 546.55 crore. Now, the only film standing between Jailer and the title of the “highest-grossing Tamil film of all time” is S Shankar’s science-fantasy action film 2.0 (2018), featuring Rajinikanth himself. According to Sacnilk, 2.0 amassed a global box office collection of Rs 723.30 crore during its theatrical run.
According to Sacnilk’s projection, the actioner is expected to attain an India nett of Rs 2.5 crore on Monday. The film had earned Rs 6.25 crore on Saturday.
On Sunday, the action thriller witnessed an overall 57.13 per cent Tamil occupancy. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie saw an impressive 37.96 per cent occupancy within the Tamil market. As the day progressed, the percentages experienced a consistent increase, rising to 67.40 per cent during the afternoon showings and peaking at 72.91 per cent for the evening screenings. During the night shows, the footfall slightly dipped and Jailer recorded an occupancy of 50.24 per cent.
Jailer has Rajinikanth essaying a man out to avenge the death of his son, a cop. The film features Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff in important cameos. The action-packed entertainer also stars Priyanka Mohan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi and Vinayakan.
Pointing out that Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar rediscovered the alchemy of a good masala film with Jailer, The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in his review of the film: “Jailer is Rajinikanth’s version of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, but with a twist. Saying that doesn’t take away anything from this fun-filled entertainer.”
Director Nelson Dilipkumar had recently dedicated the film’s success to Rajinikanth. At a recent press conference, Nelson said, “I am a big fan of Rajini. Producer Kalanidhimaran saw the story of the film very close to his heart. That is why there is no compromise anywhere in the construction. Thalaivar’s firm belief in this script is why his fans are enjoying it so much. After watching the movie, he appreciated that it was ten times better than expected. Many people look at me with distrust, but Rajini sir has full faith. That belief came true.”
