Leo is reminiscent of those times in Tamil Nadu when one movie or the other kept making headlines for one controversial reason or the other. Vijay's Thalaiva, Kamal Haasan's Viswaroopam and Virumaandi are examples of films that faced roadblocks from political and religious outfits. Now, Leo is joining the list. After the cancellation of the audio launch, the movie faced backlash for glorifying drugs and violence. Later, when the trailer was released, an expletive uttered by Vijay became a topic of discussion. After criticism from several quarters including from Vijay fans themselves, the word has been muted in the trailer. In one of the scenes in Leo's trailer, Vijay's Parthi says, "Just because some son of **** looks like me, all of you are torturing me. What will I do?" The word has now been muted in the trailer. Here's the updated version of the trailer: Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film's director, was recently asked about the criticism that his films glorify violence and drug abuse. The director replied, "When they say glorifying drugs… if I make a film where I claim that consuming this drug will give you a superpower, then I should be ashamed of it. All my heroes are fighting for a drug-free society. So, we have to end up showing what the drug is… And I don’t accept mine are violent films. They are action films. It is a genre that is prevalent across the world. We all remember our action heroes… I just don’t concern myself too much about the criticism.” Leo recently got a U/A certificate from the censor board. The film has undergone 13 minor changes that haven't affected the run time. All the changes recommended by the CBFC were regarding gore, blood, and expletives. Looks like Leo will be another adult film like Jailer that happens to bear a U/A certificate.
