Amaran box office collection day 2: Actor Sivakarthikeyan has hit it out of the park with his latest film, the Tamil biographical action-drama Amaran, which saw a strong hold on Friday after an excellent opening on Thursday. On day one, the global gross of Amaran stood at a whopping Rs 42.3 cr, and the film maintained the positive trend on day two as well.

On Friday, Amaran netted Rs 19.25 cr across all versions–Tanil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi–according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The collections are marginally lower than the opening day haul of Rs 19.25 cr, but that was expected. The collections are expected to increase again as the film settles into the weekend.

The film’s two-day India-nett collections stand at Rs 40.65 cr, and the worldwide collections would be over Rs 80 cr. By Saturday, Amaran will likely cross Rs 100 cr mark at the global box office. Amaran will now aim to beat the global gross of Indian 2, which was at Rs 148 cr. And after it does, the film will establish itself among the top four highest-earning Tamil hits of 2024, behind Dhanush’s Raayan, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan and Vijay’s The Greatest of all Time.

Amaran not only crossed the opening day record of Raayan (Rs 13.65 cr) but will also now likely overtake its worldwide gross of Rs 154 crore. If it does that, it will be the third-highest earning Tamil film of the year behind Vettaiyan (Rs 253.2 cr) and GOAT (Rs 451 cr).

The film revolves around the life and legacy of Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra — India’s highest peacetime military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield. Mukund lost his life during a 2014 encounter with militants in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir. The film also stars Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Moha and Shyamaprasad.
