Last week, the title song of Kabir Sadanand’s Fugly was shot over two days in Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios. Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, who have come together for a special appearance for the track, shot it with the lead cast of the film comprising Mohit Marwah, Vijender Singh, Arfi Lamba and Kiara Advani.
“When our team arrived to shoot, we could see that the set was incomplete. Brick and mortar were lying around and some welding work was going on. All of us thought that the set was still being constructed, but we soon found out that was the backdrop of the song. It was very new and interesting,” said Mudassar Khan who choreographed the track.
The song, which has all the actors dancing in fun and masti, also has a lot of special effects thrown in. For one section, a phantom high speed camera which provides exceptional flexibility through its frame rate and capable of shooting 1000 frames/ second was used. For this shot, Khan and Kumar shot coloured powder from a shotgun over the other actors which will be seen in very slow motion on the screen.
“There’s also a signature movement. It has the actors placing their palms and fingers on their knees and moving them slowly up to their shoulders in a crab like crawling movement. The move was funny and often, everyone would break into laughter,” explained Khan.
Produced by Akshay Kumar’s Grazing Goat Pictures and directed by Sadanand, Fugly, is shot extensively in Delhi, Haryana and the breathtaking locations of Leh. It releases on June 13.
