Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, has sparked a wave of discussion among fans and critics alike. One track in particular, “Wood,” has captured the internet’s attention, not just for its lyrics, but for its connection to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. On a recent episode of their podcast New Heights, brothers Jason and Travis Kelce shared their thoughts on the album. Jason, a retired Philadelphia Eagles center, didn’t hold back when asking the question on everyone’s mind: what does Travis think about “Wood,” a song many believe is inspired by him? “It’s a great song,” Travis said at first. But Jason wasn’t satisfied, pressing further: “Do you feel cocky about the song ‘Wood’?” “No… any song that, you know, she references me in…” Travis began, before Jason interrupted. “That’s not just any song,” Jason replied. “This is a very specific you.” Playing along, Travis feigned confusion. “I love that girl, so what do you mean?” he said. Jason decided to make his point clearer: “Well it’s not just you. It’s an appendage. It’s a very specific thing.” Travis reacted with mock disbelief. “I think you’re not understanding the song,” he said, prompting Jason to exclaim, “Jesus Christ, Travis, come on.” Jason also joked that Swift’s use of “Redwood tree” in the lyrics was “generous.” Despite the teasing, both brothers praised the album. “She’s done it again,” Travis said. “She’s put the world on tilt.” During the same conversation, Jason asked if Travis had discussed the album with their father. Travis replied, “No.” Jason admitted he hadn’t either, suggesting, “Maybe that’s who we should get a live listen to.” “Dude, I’m terrified,” Travis said. Jason laughed at the thought of their dad hearing the song’s more intimate lyrics, such as Swift singing about Travis’ love being “the key that opened my thighs.” Jason continued joking, saying he planned to record their father’s reaction. “Oh my God, I would love that. I’m gonna do it,” he teased, as the brothers laughed and affectionately referred to their dad as “Big Ed.” Also Read | Taylor Swift reveals why she won’t perform at the Super Bowl, post her engagement with Travis Kelce: ‘Here’s the thing…’ Travis added that listening to the album together had been special, especially since Swift had revealed that some songs reflect their “life together.” Swift also spoke about her mother’s reaction to “Wood” during an interview with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up. “I think that she thinks that that song is about superstitions, popular superstitions, which, which it absolutely is,” Swift said. “That’s the joy of the double entendre. That song, you could read that song for people and it just goes right over their head. That song you, you see in that song what you wanna see in that song.” Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce began dating in 2023, and the couple announced their engagement just two months ago.
