BTS members Jimin and Jungkook have been officially discharged from the military. The K-pop idols, who enlisted through the companionship soldier program, are the fifth and sixth members of BTS to complete the mandatory service of South Korea. After serving for 18 months, Jikook made their way out from the 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province. This comes a day after BTS’ V and RM returned home on June 10 after a farewell ceremony at the Chuncheon military base. Watch pictures and videos.
True to their usual fun selves, the singers stepped out and started giggling as soon as they spotted ARMYs waiting at the base. A little shy, they hid behind their bouquets, laughing to themselves for a few moments. Then came the formalities, they were called up for their speeches, received military honours, and saluted to mark their service. Fans were just happy to see how healthy both looked, and the duo bowed to everyone before heading out.
Meanwhile, Suga’s the only BTS member still serving, enrolled in public service due to his shoulder injury, which exempted him from active duty. He’s set to return on June 21, wrapping up the long wait for a full OT7 reunion. But before that, BTS and BIGHIT MUSIC will celebrate the group’s anniversary with the 2025 BTS FESTA, happening June 13–14 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
While addressing fans during the event, Jungkook said, (translated via K-media) “To all the ARMYs who came, thank you for coming to see us as we’re being discharged. I have been officially discharged as of June 11. I hereby report it!.” The singer jokingly added, “It’s been so long since I stood in front of a camera..I didn’t even put on any makeup, so I feel a bit shy and don’t really know what to say, To the seniors who came before us, the juniors, the officers who work so hard, and everyone who lived with us…thank you for enduring it all. We’re grateful for how well you took care of us.”
Jungkook and Jimin were the last to enlist when BTS hit pause on their global music career in 2022. This came after endless back-and-forth in South Korea’s parliament on whether the boys should be exempted from mandatory military service. But in the end, the septet made the call themselves and signed up. Now, they’re reunited just in time for their 12th anniversary, with a musical comeback already on the horizon. So far, all BTS members have wrapped their solo albums, while Suga, J-Hope, and Jin have already kicked off their own world tours. Whether the remaining four follow suit or regroup for a full-band world tour is still a wait-and-watch. Meanwhile, to mark FESTA, J-Hope will grace the ‘HOPE ON THE STREET FINAL’ to be held at the Goyang Sports Complex.
