Ammy Virk defends Diljit Dosanjh’s decision to keep his marriage a secret: ‘This is for their security’

In a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Ammy implied that Diljit is indeed married, suggesting that the singer’s reluctance to introduce his family publicly might be due to “some issues.” Ammy, who will be seen in Kudi Haryane Val Di, elaborated that public exposure could restrict their freedom and even pose risks. “You cannot stop anyone. If we look at Diljit Pajji’s point of view, it is his private matter. It is his family. There must be a reason that he isn’t introducing them to the world. I also have a wife and a daughter. Even I do not want them to come out in public. They also do not want it. For now, they can roam around anywhere and nobody knows they are Ammy’s family or Diljit’s family. If people know, they (families) will be troubled,” said Ammy.

He stressed that in their profession, celebrities don’t only have fans but may be facing other challenges, including “enmity,” asserting that their families shouldn’t suffer because of their popularity. “Families must not suffer. For now, they can go to the market or wherever, nobody cares. If people get to know, they might be targeted. This is for their security and this is their own will as well,” the singer-actor added.

Ammy also praised Diljit’s contributions as an artiste and how he has put India and Punjabi music on the global stage. He further added that he is confident that Diljit will eventually win prestigious awards like an Oscar or a Grammy. “He has worked hard. He has been working for almost 24 years now. It takes a lot of courage and hard work. He hasn’t performed a Coachella just like this. He has been working for it for so long. He has a catalog. When he performs on stage, he has a different energy altogether. He has been working on his music, he is doing films. We feel really good. This is just the beginning. He will surely win a Grammy or an Oscar soon,” he added.

While there are no public records or images confirming his marital status, in a profile by The Indian Express for Sunday Express Eye, Diljit’s friends claimed that the 40-year-old is married to an Indian-American woman and also has a son. The report, published days before the debut of Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, mentioned, “An intensely private person, little is known about his family but friends say his wife is an American-Indian and they have a son, and his parents live in Ludhiana.”
