Actor Nithiin, who is struggling with four back-to-back flops, and writer-director Vakkantham Vamshi, who helmed the critically acclaimed Naa Peru Surya and wrote the super flop Agent earlier this year, are uniting for Extra Ordinary Man. This is Vamshi's second directorial. The makers have openly declared that the film is going to be a routine commercial fare, albeit with a fresh approach. Casting actor Rajasekhar in an important role is definitely refreshing. Let’s move on to what else worked in the movie, or not. Abhinav (Nithiin) is a background actor who is always looking for that big break. After lots of waiting and taunts from his father to find better employment, he finally decides to leave cinema to work for Likhitha (Sreeleela), hoping to win her love also in the process. Just about then, one of his old friends offers him a lead role in a film based on real incidents. Abhi leaves his job, girlfriend and family and trains very hard to portray the character well, only to be told that he has been dropped from the movie. Abhi is truly disappointed with life this time and gets into an unnecessary fight at a bar. He soon realises that life is somehow pushing him towards a confrontation with the bad guy Nero (Sudhev Nair), on whom the film was based on. Taking this as a sign from his trusted deity Maisamma, he decides to go ahead and act out the script in real life and confront the villain Nero. What happens to Abhi in this process, and would he really fulfil his dream of starring in a lead role in a film forms the rest of Extra Ordinary Man. Though this outline seems plausible on paper, the screenplay is not so straightforward and takes most of the first half to unravel. Till then, it is mostly about the hard-to-believe silly acts of the hero and his father’s over-the-top reactions to him. Somewhere along the line, IG Arjun Baldev (Rajasekhar,) has a role to play in the big drama unfolding. Sampath Raj, playing a dreaded smuggler, also becomes a player in the elaborate scheme. Neither the story nor the way it is dealt with offers anything to keep the film engaging. Nithiin tries his best to keep things together, but the utter chaos with many characters around him makes it impossible. Rao Ramesh briefly entertains. Rohini tries some comedy with limited success. Brahmaji in the second half is okay. Hyper Aadi's character is unevenly paced. I could not fathom the reason behind Rajasekhar accepting this role. It is too short for his stature and hardly justifies his screen time. Sreeleela has a forgettable character yet again. Except may be one song, "Danger Pilla", Harris Jayraj’s music has nothing to offer. Vakkantham Vamshi’s writing is poor, illogical and hardly entertains. His direction is equally lacklustre. As a producer, Nithin disappoints with a film that feels so outdated.
