Dulquer Salmaan hints at King of Kotha sequel: ‘If you end up cherishing KoK to that extent…’
King of Kotha's trailer was recently showcased at New York's Times Square, marking a significant milestone as the first Malayalam film promoted there. Dulquer Salmaan has now revealed whether there will be a sequel for KoK.

The stage is set for the arrival of the Dulquer Salmaan starrer King of Kotha on August 24. The entire film cast and crew are putting in maximum effort to ensure that the movie’s release is a grand event. Notably, the film’s trailer was recently showcased at New York’s Times Square, marking a significant milestone as the first Malayalam movie promoted there, underscoring its monumental status.
Meanwhile, DQ recently interacted with the media in his home ground, Kochi, where he provided additional insights into his ambitious project.
During the event, Dulquer also emphasised that they would contemplate creating a sequel to the movie if they received an extraordinary reaction from the audience. He expressed, “If you (audiences) end up cherishing the film to that extent and embrace it wholeheartedly, we will certainly contemplate a sequel.”
‘Raju in King of Kotha is spontaneous, loud, and explosive’
When queried about his approach to preparing for the role of Raju in KoK, DQ mentioned that his initial focus was on portraying Raju’s reactions in stark contrast to his own. “I tend to be calm and patient, whereas Raju exhibits no patience and is spontaneous, loud, and explosive,” the actor elaborated.

Highlighting that audiences don’t merely embrace a movie solely based on its mass appeal, DQ remarked, “A film needs to encompass a good story while simultaneously entertaining viewers. A successful movie necessitates the harmonisation of numerous such elements. Rarely have movies thrived without these components. When we recall iconic mass films, their stories and characters also remain ingrained in our memory.”
‘I am an actor during the day and a dubbing artist at night’
When queried about his experience dubbing for the character Raju in all the languages King of Kotha will be released in, including Malayalam, Dulquer shared, “Lately, I’ve been joking that I’m an actor during the day and a dubbing artist at night. I dubbed Guns & Gulaabs in five languages and KoK in four. I truly enjoy the process. In the past, my films like OK Kanmani and Solo had others doing the dubbing for different languages. Now, looking back at those films, it feels a bit strange. It’s likely that viewers would feel the same way. However, considering the immense effort invested in KoK’s creation, it would seem unjust not to extend that dedication to dubbing in other languages as well.”
The Malayalam movie will hit screens simultaneously alongside its dubbed editions in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada languages.
When asked about the growth of his career across different languages and his preferred film industry, DQ expressed that working in Malayalam feels like returning home.
He also pointed out that the extended gap between two consecutive movies in the same language was due to his commitment to ensuring the excellence of his filmography.
One of the most anticipated Malayalam movies of the year, King of Kotha is a period gangster film helmed by Abhilash Joshiy. It also stars Shabeer Kallarakkal, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prasanna, Gokul Suresh, Saran Shakthi, Chemban Vinod Jose, Anikha Surendran and Shammi Thilakan in key roles.
