Jayasurya finally responds to sexual misconduct allegations: ‘A lie always travels faster than truth’
In response to the police booking a case of sexual misconduct, Jayasurya, who is currently in the US, released a statement explaining his side of the story.

Actor Jayasurya has finally broken his silence over the sexual harassment allegations levelled against him. In the wake of the Hema Committee Report, there were multiple accusations about the actor behaving inappropriately with his female co-stars. With the survivors filing police complaints, Jayasurya has been booked for outraging the modesty of a woman. In response to these developments, the actor, who is currently in the US, released a statement explaining his side of the story. “To all of you who have wished me on my birthday today, to all of you who are extending your support and standing by me, thank you,” began the statement, which was released on the occasion of his 46th birthday on August 31.
Explaining the mental toll these ‘false allegations’ has taken on him, his family, and his near and dear, Jayasurya wrote, “Due to my personal commitments, my family and I have been in America for the past month, and during this time, two false allegations on the grounds of sexual harassment were made against me. Quite naturally, it has shattered me, my family and everyone who has held me close.”

The Aadu actor also revealed that he would face these cases legally, and announced his belief in the system, and his own innocence. “I have decided to move forward with this legally. My legal team will be looking after the rest of the proceedings regarding this case. False allegations are easy to make for anyone who lacks a conscience. I only hope one realises that facing a false accusation of harassment is just as painful as the harassment itself. A lie always travels faster than the truth but I believe truth will prevail.”
While Jayasurya didn’t provide an exact date of his return to India, he shared, “I will be back as soon as I finish my work here. All the legal proceedings to prove my innocence will continue. I have complete faith in our judicial system. Thank you to those who contributed to making this birthday the most painful one.” Ending his statement with a phrase from the bible, the actor said, “Let those who have not sinned throw stones; but only at those who have sinned.”
Apart from Jayasurya, prominent actors Mukesh, Edavela Babu, Maniyanpillai Raju, and filmmaker Ranjith have been accused of sexual misconduct by many actors. Such has been the repercussions of these allegations that the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), lead by Mohanlal, resigned en masse. Voices are growing stronger for a thorough cleanup of the Malayalam movie industry, and it has created ripples across various film industries in India, with many asking for an introspective look at their functioning.
