Following a series of controversies that plagued the Malayalam film industry since the beginning of 2023, it appears that the situation is gradually stabilising and returning to normalcy. It is at a time like this that the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) organised a meeting on Sunday. This meeting assumed significance since it was rumoured that AMMA would take a decision on the ban imposed on actors Shane Nigam and Sreenath Bhasi.

While the association decided not to grant its membership to Bhasi for the time being, it has decided to find a solution for the dispute between Nigam and producers, Manorama Online reported. It was in April that the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) and AMMA announced that they will not cooperate with Nigam and Bhasi anymore as they “have time and again troubled filmmakers, technicians and co-stars.”

According to Mathrubhumi, announcing its decision to sit on the membership application of Bhasi, AMMA informed that his request would be considered once No Objection Certificates (NOC) from other organisations are obtained. Bhasi applied for AMMA membership after the ban was imposed.

About the controversy regarding Shane, a member of the association, the AMMA executive committee decided that the problem would be resolved through further dialogue, the Manorama Online report further mentioned.

In the same meeting, several other actors like Kalyani Priyadarshan, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Nikhila Vimal were granted membership by the association, India Today reported.

Soon after the associations decided not to cooperate with him, Shane Nigam had approached AMMA claiming the allegations against him were false. KFPA’s M Renjith had previously stated that “halfway through the production, Nigam insisted that he should be given more prominence in the film RDX. He wanted the movie to be edited mid-production. Nigam even threatened not to act in the movie. There is proof of all this.”

Meanwhile, Nigam told AMMA that he took up RDX after the director told him that he was the lead character. After the shoot, Nigam had his doubts so he demanded to see the edit of the film as he had reason to believe that he was one of the three characters in the film, and not the lead as the director had promised.
