Actress Melanie Griffith says splitting up with Antonio Banderas gave her "freedom".

Actress Melanie Griffith says splitting up with Antonio Banderas gave her “freedom”.

The 58-year-old actress filed for divorce on June 6, 2014 and to mark the two-year anniversary of their split, she took to Instagram to share a message, reported Female First.

“I filed for divorce 2 years ago today. June 6th, 2014 #lifeisshort #starting over #lifeisbeautiful #lovemykids #freedom (sic),” she wrote before deleting the entire post.

Griffith and Banderas married in 1996 after meeting on the set of their film Two Much the previous year and their marriage was officially dissolved in December 2015.

They have a 19-year-old daughter Stella del Carmen Banderas together.
