‘Avengers 2’ scores second-highest box office debut of all time

The sequel to “The Avengers” beat the first movie with its opening day numbers, earning USD 84.5 million on its release on Friday, May 1 compared to the first movie’s USD 80.8 million.

It was just behind the all-time best opening day of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II” which earned USD 91.7 million in its first day back in 2011.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” opening day gross is also the biggest ever for a superhero film. It has grossed a total of USD 627 million worldwide.
