‘Ben 10’ gets big screen makeover, turns to live-action
The cartoon series will get a fresh start as a potential franchise, after Warner Bros approached Joel Silver for a film.
Popular kid show ‘Ben 10,about a boy who can transform into 10 different creatures,is being adapted into a live-action feature film by Joel Silver. Warner Bros based Silver wants to develop the Cartoon Network sci-fi show into a potential franchise starter.
The show, popular with boys, has consistently notched high ratings in both cartoon series and live-action TV movie form and Silver aims to make the big-screen version a potential franchise starter,Variety reported.
Silver said his sons clued him in to the world of Ben Tennyson,a boy who can transform into 10 different alien creatures with the help of a glove-like device called the Omnitrix.
“I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material. I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old,so it’s somewhere between them”,he said.
It’s not Silver’s first foray into kids’ action films. “I tried to do (something similar) with ‘Speed Racer’ and failed miserably. You always learn more from the ones that don’t work than the ones that do work”,he added.
